Following a telephone conversation with our SEN Coordinator, you can pay for your child to attend our 4 week Animal Assisted Activities programme here.

HugglePets in the Community are able to offer our Animal Assisted Activities programme for children and young people with Special Educational Needs. These programmes are partially funded by grants and fundraising activities. This means that HugglePets in the Community will fund the majority of your programme for you.

How do I contact your SEN Coordinator? 

Please email [email protected] and our SENCO will be happy to discuss the needs of your child and how the programme can support your child. 

What does the programme cover?  

This 4 week animal assisted activities programme is designed to help children and young people to improve their wellbeing through activities and tasks, utilising animals. This will include the following: 

  • Understand a basic range of emotions and feelings
  • Understanding their feelings and how to overcome difficulties
  • Recognising the impact of their behaviour/choices 
  • Increase their self-awareness 
  • Understand a range of self-care techniques and what they look like
  • Building confidence, resilience and self-esteem 
  • Understand kindness and caring for others and animals
  • Identify a trusted adult 
  • Benefits of safe, structured human-animal interaction

Do your programmes meet the National Curriculum?

Yes, our programmes have been designed and developed to meet elements of the new RSE Curriculum and EYFS with regards to Mental Health and Relationships. We have also cross mapped all activities to Mentally Healthy Schools. Please ask a member of staff for more details.

Do parents/carers need to attend the sessions also?

Yes at least 1 parent/carer are required to stay for the session to support your child. 

How many children will attend the group programme? 

Maximum of 5 children will be in the group programme each week. 

When does the programme start? 

We run these programmes every half term and over the summer, so please check with our SENCO which dates suits you. You can purchase your booking here regardless of which date you pick.  

Who can book this programme? 

This programme is for members of the community to be able to support their child's mental health and wellbeing. If you are a school or organisation that would like to book this programme please make an enquiry here.

How long is the programme? 

The programme is 4 weeks on the same date and time each week. Each session is 50 minutes long. 

How old does your child need to be to attend the programme? 

Your child must be at least 7 years old to attend this programme, if you have a younger child, please let one of the team know as we may have other programmes available.

What HugglePets staff deliver the programme? 

Our SEN Coordinator, Animal Handling and Volunteers help deliver this programme. 

Are animals included in the group programme? 

Yes, a series of animals are used as part of the activities.  

Will my child's information be kept confidential? 

Yes, all information discussed in the programme and sessions are confidential and all paperwork is kept in a safe and secure location. We never share your personal information or contents of your sessions with anyone else, unless there is a recognised danger to yourself or others. At which point, appropriate support organisations may be contacted and you will be notified if this is to happen.

Where will the sessions take place?

We will be hosting all wellbeing workshops in our Sensory Activity Centre, including our Community Aquarium and Reptile Room. 

How do I book the 4 week programme?

Do I have to pay for all 4 sessions up front? 

Yes, all session fees are due at the time of booking, please have your card details to hand. We take full payment upfront to secure your bookings for each week for the duration of the programme. 

What if I have to miss or cancel a session? 

 Failure to attend a session will result in a loss of that session. 

If I don't like the programme or drop out will I receive a refund? 

Unfortunately due to the nature of this service, you will not be able to receive a refund for no longer wishing to attend the sessions.
