Our Impact Case Studies: Schools Animal Assisted Activities Would your pupils benefit from a Wellbeing Session with Animals? HugglePets in the Community are offering schools in the Black Country an opportunity to book a series of 6 week sessions with our animals and trained Mental Health First Aider for Young People to help children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing. What are Animal Assisted Activities? Animal Assisted Activities are wellbeing sessions with animals, delivered by a Mental Health First Aider for Children and Young People. These sessions are primarily based in the Sensory Activity Centre and Community Aquarium at the HugglePets Centre, but can be delivered in schools where necessary. Who are the sessions aimed at? The sessions are targeted at children and young people with special educational needs and/or children under the age of 7. What does the 6 week programme cover? This 6 week animal assisted activities programme is designed to help children and young people to improve their wellbeing through activities and tasks, utilising animals. This will include the following: Understand a basic range of emotions and feelings Understanding their feelings and how to overcome difficulties Recognising the impact of their behaviour/choices Increase their self-awareness Understand a range of self-care techniques and what they look like Building confidence, resilience and self-esteem Understand kindness and caring for others and animals Identify a trusted adult Benefits of safe, structured human-animal interactions Do your programmes meet the National Curriculum? Yes, our programmes have been designed and developed to meet elements of the new RSE Curriculum and EYFS with regards to Mental Health and Relationships. We have also cross mapped all activities to Mentally Healthy Schools. Please ask a member of staff for more details. What is the cost of the 6 week programme? The 6 week programme is partially funded via grants and fundraising activities, therefore we are able to offer our programmes for £700.00 (RRP £3000), this price is based on sessions delivered at the HugglePets Centre (WV2 2JL). There is a slight higher charge if you would prefer us to come to your school. What animals will be in the sessions? We have a wide range of animals from reptiles like Stick Insects, Bearded Dragons, Chameleons, Tortoises to a range of furries such as Rabbits, Guinea Pig and a Dog.
