Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching

What is Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching (AAEC)?

Firstly, what is Emotion Coaching?
Emotional Coaching:
  • Is a universal, relational approach that supports emotional regulation.
  • Helps children recognise, label, manage and understand emotions in themselves and others.
  • Is NOT dismissing or disapproving of emotions.

Added to this, Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching is:

  • being able to work on the above points, aided by a therapy animal to help convey the message or topic explored.

What are the objectives of the 4 week Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching programme?

Our 4 week programme will help your child/young person to:
  • Increase awareness of basic emotions
  • Recognise emotions in others and the correlation between humans and animals.
  • Identify healthy/unhealthy emotional responses
  • Explore regulation techniques to help manage emotions
  • Explore aspects of self care
  • Create an action plan to support going forward

Who is Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching aimed at?

Our programme has been designed with the following pupils in mind:
  • 7-12 years old
  • Non school attenders/reduced timetable
  • SEMH differences
  • Individuals struggling with understanding emotional intelligence
  • Individuals struggling with emotional resilience
  • Individuals not appropriate/willing to engage with therapy
  • Individuals who are willing to engage and open to challenging their behaviour

To ensure that both parents/guardians and schools apply realistic expectations of this programme please note what Animal Assisted Emotional Coaching is not:

  • A quick fix
  • A substitute for specific interventions
  • A therapy
  • A remedy for all of life's difficulties
