HugglePets in the Community are passionate about offering opportunities to children and young people with physical or mental health difficulties who would not usually find themselves a work experience placement due to many obstacles. The new HugglePetsCIC SEN Jobs in a Box is essentially a box of items relating to a series of job roles for pupils to explore and understand more about careers in a certain area. The programme is delivered in the classroom with support from the HugglePets team via online software and a virtual tour ago with sensory items in the box that relates to different career options. For instance, one of the boxes that can be purchased is all around Working with Dogs (see image below). Some of the job roles discussed are Dog Trainer and Dog Groomer. All of these roles are explored using online activities, physical items inside the box that would be needed as part of each role, and all activities would meet the following benchmarks, adapted where necessary. A stable careers programme Learning from careers and labour market information Addressing the needs of each student Linking curriculum learning to careers Encounters with employers and employees Experiences of workplaces Encounters with further and higher education Personal guidance The programme outlines how each benchmark is met, and provides each School with a Session Plans, Classroom Materials, Handouts, HugglePets Uniform and online Log in to the SMART software where the interactive programmes are hosted. Who is the SEN Jobs in the Box designed for? This specialised programme is designed to cater to the diverse needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), guiding them in exploring careers working with dogs in a more inclusive manner. We have several programmes to meet the needs of a variety of pupils such as: Those with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), aimed at those that have lower-than-expected academic attainment across most disciplines. Pupils with MLD have much greater difficulty than their peers in acquiring basic literacy and numeracy skills and in understanding concepts. They may also have associated speech and language delay, low self-esteem, low levels of concentration and under developed social skills. Those with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) (COMING SOON) - aimed at pupils with severe learning difficulties have significant intellectual or cognitive impairments. This has a major effect on their ability to participate in the school curriculum without support. They may also have associated difficulties in mobility and co-ordination, communication and perception and acquisition of self-help skills. Those with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) (COMING SOON)- aimed at pupils who have severe and complex learning needs, in addition they have other significant difficulties, such as physical disabilities or a sensory impairment. Pupils require a high level of adult support, both for their learning needs and also for personal care. They are likely to need sensory stimulation and a curriculum broken down into very small steps. Some pupils communicate by gesture, eye pointing or symbols, others by very simple language. What is the cost and what does it include? The cost for one SEN Jobs in the Box programme is £1250+VAT, this includes: A box of sensory items related to a several career pathways, HugglePets Uniform Teachers pack with session plans and delivery model, All physical handouts on a USB stick for easy print Access to the online software programme for interactive activities and slides, Recorded audio delivery from a member of the HugglePets team, Mock interviews with a member of the HugglePets community team 10 student certifications with AQA Awards scheme (additional registrations can be made) What will the pupils gain from the SEN Jobs in the Box experience? Is there a qualification? The items in the box and the online fun based assessment activities are not the only thing that the pupils can enjoy interacting with, they will also be able to receive an AQA Unit Awards Scheme Certificate, this means that pupils will have their work formally recognised by an Awarding Body.
