The Community Aquarium is available for FREE to members of the community 7 days a week. The Community Aquarium has 100 tanks with several different types of fish and plants for exploration. How does our Aquarium help those with mental health and special educational needs? It provides a place of sanctuary for those who require a quiet and calm environment. It has been designed to help individuals with sensory disabilities to explore our wonderful aquatic fish, while also being able to navigate themselves around with ease. The low lighting and colours to induce calmness, helping people to reduce anxiety and nerves. The constant flow of water is therapeutic and adds relaxation. Research shows that gazing at our aquarium fish can help reduce blood pressure, reduces muscle tension and pulse rates in elderly people improving their mental and physical wellbeing.
