Sensory Activity Centre

Our Sensory Activity Centre has brand new, high end electronic sensory equipment including an Infinity Tunnel, Musical Touch Wall, Musical Hopscotch, Fibre Optic Rain Cloud, a Halo Bubble Tube and an Interactive Sensory Projector. We offer individuals with sensory disabilities the opportunity to explore the world around them using our equipment.

5 Key Benefits of Sensory Play

  1. Sensory play builds nerve connections within the developing brain's neural pathways, which trigger an individuals inclination for and ability in competing more complex learning tasks.
  2. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction
  3. Sensory play aids in developing and enhancing memory functioning
  4. Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child/individual
  5. Sensory play helps an individual learn vitally important sensory attributes (hot, cold, sticky, dry, etc).

Our Animal Activities

Research shows that animals have the natural ability to improve our mood and provide a rush of feel-good chemicals in our brains. For individuals with special needs our animal play activities play an important role.

For an individual with special needs, relaxation might be harder to come by, which is why an animal can work its therapeutic magic without a person even knowing it. Animals are naturally trusting and want to be accepted, just like children. Animals never judge us humans by our disabilities or limitations, and a few hours a day or week with an animal can do wonders for a child with special needs.

Including Animals in our Workshops encourages:

  • Interactive play
  • Communication skills
  • Appropriate behaviours when dealing with animals

An individual can teach an animal basic commands which help with:

  • Self-confidence
  • Self-esteem
  • Language

This can result in delight for us as humans when an animal responds to our actions. Where an individual might be able to hug or kiss an animal and get affection in return helps towards an unconditional acceptance, which can be a much-needed bright spot in the day for a person with special needs.
