The Royal Primary School, based in Wolverhampton undertook the HugglePetsCIC Animal Assisted Intervention Programme to help improve the wellbeing of their pupils. Having chosen the 'Healthy Relationships' six week programme for their pupils, they noticed a considerable difference in the moods, behaviours and overall wellbeing of the young people within a couple of weeks of attending our sessions.

Meet Ava

Ava was referred to our programme via the school as she was struggling with Anxiety and understanding healthy relationships with others, and was recommended to attend our Healthy Relationships programme. Here is the feedback from both her Class Teacher and the HugglePetsCIC Therapist.

Ava has grown in confidence throughout the programme. By the end, she was responding to Jean (therapist) and sharing her ideas and thoughts. Her relationships with the animals have also improved her participation in the final couple of weeks of the programme. Her relationships in and out of school have also improved.

Class Teacher

I have learnt that in positive relationships, you need to be nice and truthful.

Ava, aged 8

Feedback from the Therapist include:

Ava engaged really well within the programme, completing the activities and handling the animals. Even though at times she seemed to hold back, as the weeks went by, she increased her confidence and was more willing to share her thoughts and feelings.

Meet Noah

Noah was referred to our programme via the school as she was struggling with anxiety and social interactions, and therefore was recommended to attend our Healthy Relationships programme, to encourage personal development to make new friends. Here is the feedback from both her Class Teacher and the HugglePetsCIC Therapist.

Noah initially struggled to be focused and engaged in the sessions, however as time progressed he listened more to both Jean (therapist) and his peers, being calm and respectful. Socially, Noah continues to need reassurance but has fewer occasions of being overwhelmed.

Class Teacher

I have learnt that a healthy relationship is being nice to people and helping them. People said I was nice and funny.

Noah, aged 8

Feedback from the Therapist include:

Noah presented as very enthusiastic during the programme and excitable about the animals. Noah answered activity questions to the best of his awareness and tried hard to access his feelings about relationships in his life.
