Burnt Tree Primary School, based in Sandwell undertook the HugglePetsCIC Animal Assisted Intervention Programme to help improve the wellbeing of their pupils following the pandemic and closure of schools. Having chosen the 'Anxiety and Low Mood' six week programme for their pupils, they noticed a considerable difference in the moods, behaviours and overall wellbeing of the children within a couple of weeks of attending our sessions.

Feedback from Pupils include:

I liked the sessions because it made me feel calm, I liked talking to the adults and playing the relaxing game. My favourite animal is Millie the Rabbit, who let me stroke her. - Nyisha, 11 years old

I enjoyed the sessions and I am always excited for HugglePets to come to school, I have learnt we always have to be kind to animals - Alfie, 6 years old

Alfie & Nyisha, with Barbara the Bearded Dragon  The Group meet Luna the Therapy Dog Nyisha, Jayden & Kayla with Barbara the Bearded Dragon

Feedback from Therapist include:

Nyisha was very engaging and respectful of the group. As the weeks went by she opened up more and more about her life and experiences and always enjoyed handling the animals.

Jayden was very vocal about his feelings and experiences and on occasion would be taken from the group by myself and explore how he felt. He was very open and honest.

Alfie really really enjoyed the animal time in sessions. He engaged well and spoke about things that upset him during the sessions and seemed to thrive from the activities.

We are pleased to have been part of these positive changes within young people who are struggling with their mental health.
